Reflections or Questions? Who can tell.

I’m just gonna come out of the gate and say that I regret missing class last Wednesday. While the article left me feeling numb and frustrated (as most news does mid-pandemic/mid-fascist political regime/2012-2020 in general), Chevrefoil just left me confused. I have many questions, none of which are intelligent, thoughtful discussion questions – more like plot-related, blatantly idiotic inquiries. The in-text annotations barely helped, and, overall, I can’t quite piece together why Rambaran-Olm’s painful plea for change was paired with an aged French poem about a Queen falling in love with her nephew? This is truly the value of attending class; being able to decipher the known (such as plot and purpose) and the unknown (such as close reading and connecting disparate texts) together, as a group.

I’m going to leave this post a bit short and remain confused, mainly to avoid wasting anyone’s time by trying to add fluff to foolishness in order to hit a word count that is there to try to encourage people to say more in order to think more – a noble goal, but one that may, in this instance, be ineffective against idiocy.

  1. I appreciate and relate to this post SO MUCH especially this week. I am an English Teaching major and as a student teacher now reading work that is clearly just added to make the word count is soooooooooooooooooooooooo tiring. I will legit forget what I read three sentences before because I read the same sentence reworded three times. I admire an honest post like this because as someone who has their plate so full I can’t even pick the metaphoric plate up I appreciate you not wasting my time reading through the fluff trying to understand what you’re saying. In honor of your post, I’ll keep this comment short too. Bravo! Love the honest attitude.

  2. Yeah, Chevrefoil and Dr. MRO’s work are definitely contrasting rather than complementary pieces! While we didn’t talk about it in class, one link is the construction of race and class. Marie de France’s England is white, upper-class, and largely unencumbered by thoughts of anyone outside their social and racial sphere. Dr. MRO’s essay is a quick portal to medieval stories that are going untold.
