Questions about the Moth:

Is the moth an example of hope? Or lack of power? 

Reading the text, I see the moth as an example of hope. Throughout the text, it is trying to escape, get to the outside world where it is beautiful and big and free. In the pane it is stuck, and can’t leave. So part of me believes it to be a way that the moth hopes to leave even if it never does. Another thing I question is the idea of hope or lack of power. The narrator knows it can let the moth out, but choses against it. IS this then, a showing of the lack of power the moth has and a showing of power that the narrator has, or is it just a coincidence? 

Why didn’t the narrator let the moth go? 

I mentioned this before, but was it a power gag? Did the narrator enjoy the moth so much that it couldn’t let it go? Looking at the text, I kind of get the gist that the narrator didn’t like the moth at all. When we think of something beautiful, we don’t really think of moths, our mind goes to butterflies. The moth kind of plays the role as the next step down. Could the narrator possibly think that the moth didn’t deserve to leave? To stay and suffer because it wasn’t meant for the world outside?
