Wide Sargasso Sea Questions

Was the fire at the beginning of Wide Sargasso sea, a foreshadowing of Antoinette as Bertha in Jane Eyre, burning down Rochester’s home? 

Reading Wide Sargasso Sea, as soon as Antoinette had to flee her home from the fire after the protests, my mind immediately went to when she burned down her own home in Jane Eyre (when Rochester went in to save her and was left for the time being, blind). I think it is important to note that perhaps this memory of her childhood haunted her as she moved with Rochester, and was locked away. Her childhood haunting her memories and for some reason, her need to recreate them. 

Why did Rochester name her Bertha? 

We all know that Rochester was terrible to everyone and anyone and that more likely than not, he simply refused to call Antoinette by her name to hold that place of power he had, but I still wonder… Why did he choose the name, Bertha? He was aware that Antoinette’s mental health was declining, but instead of treating her as she should be treated, he continued to dehumanize her. And it all started with the renaming.
